You are now looking at the newly redesigned Aurora Senior Association Website. This redesign is the combined efforts of 6 volunteer members and make several functionally important changes. But, before we get to what those changes are, let’s talk a bit about what the goals were.

  1. Make it easy to find out what is happening at the centre.
  2. Keep the information fresh.
  3. Make the site friendlier to mobile devices.
  4. Allow more to be done through the site (booking computer help, signing up for a virtual seminar).
  5. Make it easy for members to reach out to activity owners and committees if they have an interest or question.

So, what was changed? The biggest change was to the calendar. Other than the front page, this is the most visited part of the site. Until now the calendar was an image which was impossible to navigate for people with disabilities requiring the use of a screen reader. In making the change to an interactive calendar we also allow you to get more information about an activity by clicking on it.

Another change, modelled on the Guelph Seniors Association site, was to keep news updates at the top of the page and make it easy for activity and committee leads to update you on what is happening. We hope to add at least one new item per month. Some of these will be designed to give new members insight into resources that will help them get started. Jane Snape’s post is designed to help new members get started with Pickle Ball and Doug Cooper has a post about how to get started learning about an App for your phone or tablet.

All these news items will now be archived on the site for people to explore.

We hope you like what you see. Please send anyone on the team your thoughts on topics for future new items and ideas about what else we could be doing with our new website.

The Aurora Seniors Centre is operated in partnership with the Town of Aurora's Community Services Department. Its success is based on the Seniors who volunteer their time and Town of Aurora staff.
