Smile! Spring is in the air!

I think that for the first time in a year we have reason to be optimistic that this difficult time is coming to an end. York Region now has vaccines available to everyone over 65 years of age.You can register at york.ca/covid19vaccine. I understand that it has become easier to book your vaccine appointment but if you are having difficulty with booking or with transportation to the vaccine site there is help. Contact pinkcars.ca and the good folks there will assist you. The AstraZeneca vaccine has become available for those over 60 in some areas in Ontario and new spots will continue to be added. These are primarily Drug Stores such as Shoppers and Rexall as well as in places such as Walmart that have pharmacies.

In other news the Reopening Committee and the Board have agreed to delay the opening of the Centre for now. The question of when we will reopen will be revisited at the June Board meeting. For further information on this decision please refer to the April Board Page in the newsletter. Things are developing rapidly so keep an eye out for e-flashes, the Board Page and the Newsletter for our most current information.

As I’m sure you realize it is impossible to hold elections at this time. As such the current Board and the Executive Committee have all agreed to stay on for the term of June 2021 to June 2022. Again further details and a list of the Board and Executive members can be found in the April newsletter. These names also appear on our Website under the heading “About Us”. I would like to thank all the Board members for their time and dedication during this difficult period.

Our Board meetings are held (virtually for now) on the 3rd Monday of each month at 12.30. All ASA members are welcome to attend. If interested please contact Karie, Andrew or myself for details. The minutes of these meetings are available on our website.

April is traditionally Volunteer month. Although we have been closed for the better part of this past year it does not diminish our appreciation for all our Volunteers. On behalf of the Board I would like to thank all of you.

We are currently investigating the feasibility of a General Meeting over Zoom that our members can attend. We will inform you when we have more details.

We are in constant contact with the office of Christine Elliott regarding Covid-19. As the situation is constantly changing we recommend you keep an eye on the website and e-flashes as well as our newsletter. Hard copies are available between the front doors of the Centre.

Senior Centres Without Walls continues to offer virtual programs that may interest you. We are also working with some of our Activities to explore virtual meetings and get togethers.

Finally our Special Events Committee has several upcoming events. For more details check the website or keep an eye out for e-flashes.

For now please continue to follow all the safety protocols as you have been doing. Stay patient a little longer and try to keep your spirits up. We’re almost there!

Stay safe and well…. Dave LeGallais
