Dear ASA Members:

We’ve been through a lot in the past two years and certainly learned many new things. We’ve learned firsthand what a Pandemic is and about “protocols’ and “lockdowns” and “quarantine”. We’ve “flattened the curve”, had spikes, practiced “an abundance of caution” and coped with “Social Distancing”. We’ve put up with “masks” and “vaccine mandates”. “We’ve endured “waves” and learned about “variants”.

We’ve all had a class in epidemiology! We have been reminded of the importance of science and facts. And we have globally rejoiced when those scientists gave us a vaccine, even if we still don’t know how many “boosters” will be required. Many of us have learned about FaceTime and Zoom and there is enough sourdough bread out there to feed an army.

Our Centre has of course been affected by all of this too, but we have survived. I want to thank all the staff, volunteers and members who managed to keep our community together through these difficult times. I would particularly like to thank the members of our Board and the Reopening Committee for all their hard work in keeping us afloat.

As of now we seem to be moving forward. We certainly hope this is for the long term. The Centre is open for business and the programs and activities have been gradually returning. As of April 4th, all Covid restrictions will be lifted following Government protocols. There will no longer be a Liability Waiver, Vaccine mandate, Covid Screening or social distancing requirements.

There will not be a mask mandate, but we highly recommend and urge you to continue this practice for now. However this is a personal decision and please respect each other’s choice.

We are in the process of bringing back as many of our programs as possible. We are now up to approximately 22 activities. Check our newsletter for the activity schedule. If an activity you enjoyed has not returned and you would like to see it return please call me at 905-751-6911 or Andrew at the Centre for information. This excludes all activities that include the service of food, such as the Bistro, for the time being.

Our Board Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month. You are welcome to attend, virtually for now. Also, you can view the board minutes in the newsletter.

We will be having our first AGM since June of 2019! It will be held on June 8th, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the ASC. You are welcome to attend in person or you may attend virtually. For more information see the May newsletter or check the website, in May.

We have understandably lost some members over the past couple of years. Therefore we are planning an Open House and Membership drive in the next few months. We hope to encourage new members to join us. We will welcome them and their new ideas. We want to keep our Centre growing and evolving. Please encourage your friends and family to check
us out.

As you are probably aware the ASA is completely Volunteer driven. If you are interested in volunteering or just need some information on it please call Reception at 905-726-476. They will be able to direct you to the person who can assist you. Volunteering can be fun, rewarding and a great way to meet people.

I think that’s it for this month. Let us all cross our fingers that we will continue to move forward. I look forward to seeing you at the Seniors Centre.

Thanks, and take care! Dave LeGallais
