The ASA is a wonderful community of people coming together to enjoy all sorts of different activities. But like all good things they come at a cost. Our membership fees only cover a small part of our expenses and that’s where Fundraising comes in. We have a great team of volunteers that organize and run all sorts of special events for our members’ enjoyment and to help raise much-needed revenue.

Just this past year we have had some very special events. We had a very successful bottle drive throughout the Summer. Members brought in Spirit and Wine bottles and hardworking volunteers then took them to the LCBO to collect the deposits. This past Fall, for several weeks, folks were able to purchase muffins and coffee on Thursday mornings to start their day. In November we had award-winning author Ted Barris speak to participants about the brave Canadian Merchant Marines during WWII.

Dedicated volunteers sold delicious Fraktals at several different events just in time for Christmas stocking stuffers. I have a feeling many of those purchases never made it to the stocking! Many of us enjoyed a fun and informative evening at a Wine Tasting this past February. We were able to sip some fine wines and enjoy a wonderful Art exhibit. Recently we had a purse sale where members donated gently used purses for purchase at the sale. Lots of women are now sporting great new handbags. On the last weekend of April, a Giant Indoor Garage Sale will take place with lots of bargains available to the community.

These are just a few of the exciting Fundraising events we have had with more planned for the future. We have a new Fundraising committee who are all busy planning future projects. If you are able to give some of your time as a volunteer at an event, it is always appreciated. Please consider attending some of the events as they come up. We think you’ll enjoy yourself and you will help raise much-needed funds.
