I hope everyone had an enjoyable Holiday Season and you are now looking forward to 2023! I am certainly excited about the upcoming year and one of the first things on my agenda is to continue working towards ways to enhance all our members’ enjoyment of the Centre. With that in mind, I invite you to share your ideas and comments regarding the ASA both positive and constructive. Do you have any suggestions about programs or activities you would like to see at the Centre? Please let me know. You can email me at drdavelegallais@gmail.com.

I want to remind you again that it’s time to renew your membership if you haven’t already. Your 2022 membership will expire at the end of January. Extra volunteer staff will be at the Centre to help you renew during the first two weeks of January to accommodate everyone. Of course, you can renew later as well but you won’t be able to participate in programs come February if you haven’t renewed. Remember you also have the option of renewing online this year. Go to the website for easy-to-follow instructions. New members are also invited to join at this time as well but they can’t join online, they must come to the centre.

Membership renewal is just one of the many things that run through our volunteers. We are always looking for new volunteers in many different positions. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer leave your name at Reception and someone will contact you. Volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved with the Centre, give back, socialize and meet new friends and feel like an important part of the our ASA community. I can personally attest that I have truly enjoyed my time volunteering in various roles. You may be interested in an ongoing role such as serving on a standing committee, working at Reception or being on the Board or an intermittent role such as helping with an event or activity. All roles are important as we can’t function without our dedicated volunteers.

As I mentioned we are always interested in hearing new ideas for programs or activities. If you or a group of you would like to share your talent, knowledge or leadership in starting something new you should contact the Operations and Activities Committee to discuss it. You can email me at drdavelegallais@gmail.com.

Very importantly our elections for the Board of Directors will happen this June. It’s not too early for you to start considering whether you might be interested in serving on the Board. Due to Covid, we have not had an election since 2019. This year 5 of the 9 Board seats will be up for election. Board duties include a commitment to actively support programs and activities for seniors within our organization. If you are interested in further details contact either John Scherrer who is chair of the Nominating and Election Committee or myself. More information will be coming in the newsletter and on the website. It is a very rewarding way to serve the ASA.

In closing I would like to thank once again our Town Staff, our volunteers and our members for making The Aurora Senior Centre the best senior centre in Ontario. At least in my opinion. We’ve been through some rough times in these last few years but through hard work and a little tenacity, we’ve kept the ASA going. To come in now is a little like the good old days but even better!  The Aurora Senior Association has sure made my retirement a whole lot more fun. I look forward to a successful 2023 shared with all of you.

See you at the Centre…. Dave LeGallais
