Greetings ASA Members,

Well, we’ve made it to May and the Centre continues to thrive. The number of Activities is steadily growing as is the participation from our members. You can always get details on our programs in the Newsletter. Of course there are still some activities that have not resumed. If there is something you are interested in you may consider coordinating it. For information and assistance on doing that please contact Andrew (abailey@aurora.ca) or myself at (drdavelegallais@gmail.com).

The Town of Aurora’s Seniors Centre Without Walls program has won the Banners Readers Choice Award for 2021. The SCWW was  judged the number one Adult Activity Program in Aurora. Sincere Congratulations to Karie, Andrew and Brandi. This award is a testament to their hard work and dedication to this program that significantly enhances the lives of those who participate in it.

I am sad to report that we are losing our Treasurer, Cheryl Rhines. Cheryl has spent the last four years working very hard to keep our Centre running and financially sound. Few people know of the many hours she has dedicated to our Centre. I would like to thank Cheryl on behalf of myself and the Board and all the members of the ASA. Job well done!

We are always looking for members to help out on Standing Committees and with Activities. It’s a great way to get a sense of accomplishment and meet new friends. As I’m sure you know the ASA is a 100% volunteer run organization. Come and give us a hand at keeping our Centre thriving.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the Reopening Committee. The committee was formed in the Spring of 2020 when the Centre was shut down due to Covid. The members have met once a month for the past two years. The objective was to reopen the Centre as safely as possible. As the Centre is now up and running we have disbanded this committee. Our last meeting was this past April. I’d like to thank everyone on the committee for their hard work. Again, well done.

Our first AGM since June 2019, will be held on June 8, 2022 at 1:00 PM. Details can be found on the front page of the newsletter. We hope to see you there either in person or virtually.

I’m excited to announce that the Silver Stars, our own theatrical group, will be presenting their latest production, “A Cabaret of Comedies” this month. There are three performances, a matinee and evening one on May 14 and a matinee on May 15. Tickets may be purchased at Reception for $5 per ticket. It promises to be good fun!

We have been given several boxes of Covid Rapid Antigen test kits courtesy of the Red Cross for our members only. If you would like one please ask at Reception.

I am pleased to say that a new Website Committee has been formed to improve and update our website. If you have experience in website design, please let us know. We can always use your help. Keep an eye on the site in the near future and let us know what you think.

One final note: There will be a Covid GO-Vax Mobile clinic held on May 11th from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, in the ASA parking lot.

Thanks and take care…

Dave LeGallais
