Hello again ASA Members,

It feels like summer has just begun and yet here Labour Day and the Ex have come and gone. I remember as a kid that, although I really looked forward to the CNE, it did mean the end of summer and that wasn’t appreciated. But I’m alright seeing the end of summer now because we have so much to look forward to
this Autumn at the ASA.

We have been reopened for approximately six months since our lengthy Covid closure. Most of our activities are back with only a few sadly missing. We hope to get those started again. If an activity you previously enjoyed has not returned and you would be interested in helping it launch again please don’t hesitate to call me at 905-751-6911. I’m also pleased to report that our membership numbers are improving. We now have over 1050
members registered. We still have a ways to go to reach our pre-pandemic numbers but it’s a very healthy start. One way to increase those numbers is through word of mouth. We encourage you to tell your friends and neighbours about the Centre. To help you we are providing Business cards at the front desk. Feel free to take a few and hand them out to folks you think might be interested. They can always drop by for information and a tour.

I mentioned that we have an exciting Fall ahead and it begins in early September. From the 6th to the 9th we are having an Open
House. At this time we will also start our membership drive. Everyone is invited to come by and meet staff and volunteers, learn about our programs and enjoy some refreshments. Some of the other events planned are:

  • ASC Activity Fair – Wed. Sept. 7th from 10 am – 12 pm. Meet our volunteers and learn about the activities they represent.
  • Try it Week – Sept. 6- 12. Try out our various activities at no charge.
  • Senior Active Living Fair – Sat. Sept. 10, from 9am – 1pm. With over 45 different exhibitors .

See the website and newsletter for further information on the above. Our objective is to reintroduce our members to all our ongoing activities and programs as well as to inform potential new members to all the Centre and the ASA has to offer.

Here are some other events to mark on your calendar:

  • Sept. 17 – Colossal Indoor/Outdoor sale
  • Sept. 28 – Carol MacDonald on the Group off Seven
  • Oct. 14 – Trivia Event
  • Nov. 21 – Speaker, Ted Barris on his new book The Battle of the Atlantic.

So you can see there are activities for everyone at the Centre . For your further enjoyment we have bus tours, movies, Friday night dances, trivia nights, trips to Blue Jay games and much more. If you have any ideas for events or functions you think folks would enjoy don’t hesitate to let us know. We are always open for new ideas.

As previously mentioned our Web Site is being updated with a new format. The changes will begin in September. Keep an eye on it and let us know your thoughts.

We hope you’ll begin to think of the ASC as THE Community Centre for the 55+ crowd. The place you meet friends, enjoy activities, stay active and continue to learn. But most of all to have Fun!

One final item: Don’t forget that you can also support the Centre through the various fundraising events or through a donation to the Aurora Seniors Association. Tax receipts are given for any donation over $20.

Thanks and hope to see you soon…
